Manta Ray
         
I am self-taught
and independent. I am interested in photography only as an art
and not as a business. In thematic terms I have three areas of
focus: formal nudes, iconic portraits and fashion images. In all
three areas I explore the tension of seemingly opposite things
that are either harmonized upon close examination or manage to
coexist peacefully despite their juxtaposition. In my formal
nudes, I use negative space to isolate emotions within and
contradictions of the body, use shadows to explore the internal
struggles that have external manifestation, and use color to
explore what gives a figure its mood other than the pure form.
My portraits reveal the inherent drama of a still expression, a
specific feature, or the direction of a gaze. I look for the
external cues that reveal internal processes and examine how
people become symbols and representations of themselves, yet
maintain their inner voice. I shoot fashion to examine color and
the power of an image to create a story out of single frame.
